ADVENTURES FOR THE WILD AND MILD AT HEART
Outdoors
It’s hard to exaggerate the appeal of Adelboden’s setting. Lying 1,350 metres above sea level in the heart of central Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland, it’s a classically picturesque, tranquil village of gingerbread-house timber chalets surrounded by pine forests and Alpine meadows, and framed by the grandeur of the Adelboden Mountains. Swiss traditions and seasonal rhythms count for much here. Although Adelboden is a hub for outdoor adventurers year-round, it’s quieter than better-known destinations nearby, with the feel of an undiscovered haven.
Ski and more...
For skiers, snowboarders and ice-climbers, winter offers abundant riches. Three ski areas – Engstligenalp, Tschentenalp, and Silleren – total more than 210 kilometres of outstanding pistes, with 72 highly efficient lifts to help you make the most of your day. Come January, visitors flock for the heart-pounding competition of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Giant Slalom and Slalom.
Hike and more...
Throughout spring and summer, snow-covered slopes give way to meadows covered with native wildflowers –marigolds, alpine anemone, saxifrage and gentian among them – and the riches pass to mountaineers, rock-climbers, hikers, runners, paragliders, and road and mountain cyclists. More than 200 kilometres of trails mean you can explore the area’s pristine natural environment in relative privacy, and never repeat a route unless you choose to.
Bike
The mountain bike trails and road cycling routes around Adelboden are predominantly for experienced and intermediate riders, but the Gravelpassage loop, with a less demanding incline and mostly well paved surfaces, is fine for most fitness levels.
